I am trying to use a M25PX16 as the AS configuration device for a Cyclone III as it allows the lower half of memory to be protected. I wanted to protect the FPGA image and be able to use the upper memory for parameter storage. Since the M25PX16 does not support the same format of silicon ID as the M25P16 does, the Quartus programmer utility complains that it cannot read the silicon ID. There is an option in the convert programming files to disable the EPCS ID check, but this option is not accessible in the 12.1 version of Quartus I am using. I have some older versions installed that have the disable ID option available but they do not seem to recognize the sof files generated by version 12.1. Does anyone know if there is a way to get the M25PX16 to work in Quartus 12.1?
